Dedicated to heart health

Our experienced vets can assess and manage a wide range of heart conditions, including murmurs, arrhythmias, and circulatory issues. If your pet shows signs like fainting, coughing, laboured breathing or exercise intolerance, we can investigate potential heart involvement.

For more complex cases, we work with visiting veterinary cardiologists who perform advanced diagnostics, such as echocardiograms, ECGs, and detailed assessments, right here in our clinic. This means your pet can access expert cardiac care in a familiar, supportive environment.

How we can help

Cardiac auscultation

Using a stethoscope, our vets listen carefully to your pet’s heart to assess the rate, rhythm, and detect murmurs or abnormal sounds.

Electrocardiogram (ECG)

A quick, non-invasive test that records the heart's electrical activity. Useful for detecting arrhythmias, conduction issues, or changes in heart rate.

Thoracic x-rays

These help us assess the size and shape of the heart, lungs, and surrounding chest structures. We look for signs of fluid, masses, or structural changes.

Heart scans (echocardiography)

A specialised ultrasound that provides real-time images of the heart, allowing us to examine heart function, valve health, rhythm, and identify any structural abnormalities.

Cardiac blood tests

These include biomarkers such as troponin-I, which can help detect heart muscle damage or stress and assist in the diagnosis of heart conditions.

Blood pressure measurement

Monitoring blood pressure is important in detecting underlying heart disease and assessing its impact on other organs, especially the kidneys.

Ongoing management & medication

For pets with chronic cardiac conditions, we offer long-term care plans including medication management, monitoring, and follow-up.

Hospitalisation And monitoring

If your pet needs more intensive care, we can provide in-clinic monitoring with oxygen therapy, intravenous medications, and supportive care.

Complex cases

For more complex cases, we work with visiting veterinary cardiologists who perform advanced diagnostics—such as echocardiograms, ECGs, and detailed assessments—right here in our clinic. This means your pet can access expert cardiac care in a familiar, supportive environment.

Questions you might have

Do you have a cardiologist on staff?

While none of our vets are specialist cardiologists, they are all experienced in spotting and managing heart conditions. For more complicated cases, we may suggest a referral to a cardiologist. The good news is they can come to our clinic — so you won’t need to travel elsewhere. This makes things much easier for both you and your pet.

My pet was recently diagnosed with a heart condition, does that mean they’ll be on medication for the rest of their life

This will depend on the type and severity of the disease your pet has been diagnosed with. In some cases, if caught early enough, they may not need medication. Unfortunately, in other cases, it may mean that they will require medication for the rest of their life.

I think my pet might have a heart problem — what should I do?

If you’re worried your pet may have a heart condition, the best step is to book a consultation with one of our vets. At the appointment, we’ll listen to your pet’s heart with a stethoscope to check things like heart rate and rhythm, and we’ll also look at their breathing pattern. This gives us a good overview of their heart and lung health. If we notice anything of concern, we can talk you through further tests and plan the right next steps together.

Can diet and exercise help manage a heart condition?

Yes — alongside medication (if needed), your vet may recommend dietary changes, weight management, and tailored exercise to help support your pet’s heart health.

How often will my pet need check-ups?

Pets with heart conditions often need regular monitoring, which may include physical exams, repeat blood tests, X-rays, or heart scans. Your vet will create a schedule based on your pet’s specific needs.
