A clearer picture of your pet’s health

Our diagnostic services include x-rays, ultrasound, blood tests, faecal analysis, and more. When needed, we can carry out diagnostic tests to build a clearer picture and guide the most appropriate and effective treatment for your pet.

We know how worrying it can be when your pet isn't feeling their best, and we're here to support both of you every step of the way.

How we can help

Cytology

Cytology is the examination of individual cells, typically collected from tissues, skin lesions, ears, or bodily fluids. We often use swabs or fine needle aspirates to collect samples, which are then examined under a microscope to help us identify infections, inflammation, or abnormal cell changes. In some cases, for a more detailed evaluation, we may send the samples to a specialist pathologist at our external laboratory.

Faecal analysis

Our in-house diagnostic equipment allows us to test for a variety of intestinal parasites, such as roundworms, hookworms, whipworms, and tapeworms. If your pet has more complex symptoms, or if we require a more comprehensive parasite screen, we may send faecal samples to our partnered external laboratory for further analysis.

Blood tests

We offer in-house blood testing using advanced analysers, allowing us to perform many routine tests quickly and efficiently — often with same-day results.
For more specialised tests or panels that require advanced analysis, we partner with a trusted external laboratory. This ensures we get accurate, comprehensive results to help guide the best care for your pet.

Ultrasound

Urine analysis

We can perform a variety of in-house urine tests, including specific gravity measurement, dipstick analysis, and basic cytology to look for crystals, bacteria, or abnormal cells. In more complex cases, or when results require confirmation, we may send urine samples to our external laboratory for expert evaluation by a pathologist.

X-rays

Questions you might have

My pet gets very nervous at the vets. Can you help make tests less stressful?

Absolutely. Our clinics are designed to be as stress-free for pets as possible, however, If your pet continues to struggle with nerves, we may be able to give them calming medication before their appointment. If we haven’t seen your pet recently, we may need to check them over first before prescribing. Just get in touch with us and we’ll talk you through the best option.

How long will it take to get my pet’s test results?

It depends on the type of test. Some blood tests we run in-house can be ready in just a few hours. Others that we send to an external lab may take up to 10–14 days. The vet or nurse doing the test will let you know when to expect results. And if you forget — no problem, just send us a message and we’ll confirm the timeframe for you.

What if the test results come back inconclusive?

Sometimes test results aren’t completely clear. If that happens, your vet will talk through the next steps with you. That might mean repeating the test, taking another sample, or trying a different type of test. We’ll guide you through the process so you feel confident moving forward.

Will my pet need to be sedated for their test?

Some tests can be done while your pet is awake, but others (like X-rays) may require sedation or anaesthesia. Your vet will explain what’s needed and talk you through the risks and benefits.

How much do diagnostic tests cost?

Costs can vary depending on the type of test and whether it’s done in-house or at an external lab. We’ll always give you an estimate before going ahead.

Do I need to be present while my pet has the test done?

For many tests, you’re welcome to stay with your pet. For others (like x-rays), we may need to take your pet to another area of the clinic. We’ll always keep you updated.
