Looking beneath the surface

At Hello Vet, all of our vets are experienced in performing routine ultrasound scans. Our clinics feature state-of-the-art equipment, including Clarius handheld ultrasound devices for shorter, less complex cases, and larger, advanced ultrasound systems to ensure the highest level of detail and accuracy for more complex cases.

How we can help

Abdominal scans

Used to examine internal organs such as the liver, kidneys, intestines, and spleen—helping detect issues like masses, blockages, or inflammation.

Urogenital scans

Focus on the urinary and reproductive systems, helpful for investigating urinary problems, reproductive concerns, or pregnancies.

Cardiac scans

Also known as echocardiography, these scans assess the heart’s structure and function—ideal for diagnosing heart conditions in pets.

Thoracic scans

Used to evaluate the chest area, including the lungs and surrounding space, often to investigate coughing, breathing issues, or fluid build-up.

Questions you might have

Does my pet need to be sedated or given a general anaesthetic for a scan?

Most pets do not need sedation or a general anaesthetic for an ultrasound. However, if your pet is very anxious, in pain, or unable to stay still, we may recommend sedation to help make the experience more comfortable and stress-free for them.

Does my cat/dog need to be shaved?

In most cases, we do need to shave a small area of fur to ensure the ultrasound probe has direct contact with the skin. This improves the image quality significantly. If you have concerns about shaving, feel free to discuss them with the vet on the day of the scan.

Is a scan painful?

Ultrasound scans are generally not painful. We shave the area, apply a cold gel to the skin, and gently move the probe to capture images. If we are scanning a sensitive or painful area, your pet may experience some discomfort, but we always work to keep them as comfortable as possible.

How long does a scan take?

The length of the scan can vary depending on the area being examined, how easily we can identify the issue, and how cooperative your pet is. Most scans take between 5 to 45 minutes.
