What is a vet nurse consultation?

Our Registered Veterinary Nurses are involved in every aspect of delivering exceptional care for our patients. When they are not assisting during surgery or scans, they offer handy face-to-face consultations, performing minor procedures including nail trims, anal gland expression and vaccinations, plus they can help you to keep your pet at a healthy weight.

How we can help

Kitten Vaccinations

Kittens also require two vaccinations, given 3–4 weeks apart. Like puppies, they need to be at least 8 weeks old before receiving their first vaccine.

Weight management

It’s not always easy to tell if your pet is at a healthy weight. Our nurses can monitor your pet’s weight and provide personalised weight management plans if needed.

Nail clips

Our nurses are happy to trim your cat’s or dog’s nails to keep them comfortable and prevent overgrowth.

Anal gland expression

If your pet’s anal glands are causing discomfort or need regular care, our nurses can help by expressing them.

Repeat injections/second vaccines

If your pet requires ongoing treatments—such as Librela, Cytopoint, or second vaccines—our nurses can administer these during a quick and stress-free appointment.

Questions you might have

Do I have to pay for a nurse consultation?

Yes, a nurse consultation is £30.

How long is a nurse consultation?

A nurse consultation usually lasts around 10–15 minutes. Depending on what you’ve booked in for, it may sometimes be a little shorter or longer.

Can I request a specific nurse for my appointment?

We know some pets (and their owners!) feel most comfortable with a familiar face.  If you’d like to see a particular nurse, just let us know and we’ll do our best to make it happen. We can’t always guarantee a specific nurse due to how busy the clinic can be. Every one of our nurses provides the same gentle, high-quality care.

Can a nurse prescribe medication for my pet?

Nurses aren’t able to prescribe medication. If they feel your pet may need treatment, they’ll recommend booking in with a vet.

What if I booked a nurse appointment but needed to see a vet?

Vets and nurses have different appointment times, so you won’t be able to switch on the spot. If you do need to see a vet, we’ll do our very best to find you a slot — sometimes even later that same day.
